Day of Miracles
Sunday 28th Feb
The first full moon of the year is celebrated in the Vajrayana as the Day of
Miracles, or Chotrl Duchen, to commemorate the final day of miraculous
display by the Buddha which lasted 15 days. He performed these numerous
miracles to overpower the six heretical teachers who challenged the Buddha.
When the Buddha first received the challenge, he moved to another
kingdom of India and he continued to avoid the teachers until he had visited
all the kingdoms. Finally, he had the kings of these lands and their
retinues accompany him to the final kingdom. There, at an arranged field,
he displayed his miraculous powers for 15 days, it is said, to increase the
devotion and merit of future disciples. Through these acts of this 15 day
period, which are every year observed by the great prayer festival of the
Gelugpa Monlam Chempo. The Buddha defeated the heretical teachers and
introduced all in the audience to the path of Dharma.

Path & Grounds
Thursdays 7pm
Khensur Kangyur Rinpoche’s personal suggestion, Geshe Jampa Gyaltsen will be teaching “Grounds and Paths” (“Sa Lam’ in Tibetan), which is a general presentation
of all the levels of Buddhist spiritual practice of the three categories of practitioners: Hearers, Solitary Realizers and Bodhisattvas. “Grounds and Paths” acts as a template for the practitioner, enabling him to know exactly what practices
are necessary at
what level and what the signs of
realization of meditations, such as meditation on emptiness are.
As such, it is highly recommended for all
the students who attended the Lorig
teachings of
Geshe-la as well as of the students who are following
Khensur
Rinpoche’s great teaching on Nagarjuna’s
“Bodhicitta-vivarana”.
The text Geshe Jampa Gyaltsen will be relying upon is
Jetsün Chö Kyi
Gyeltsen’s (1469-1546) short text on “Grounds and Paths” which has been
the mainstay of
teachings on this topic at Sera Je Monastery from the
XVIth
century. Most of Sera Je’s monastic textbooks
were composed by this extraordinary debater, scholar
and yogi, famous for his understanding of emptiness,
of
whom it was rumoured that he recited the “Eight
Thousand Verse Perfection
of Wisdom Sutra” every
day .

Body Mandala
of 5-Deity Heruka Initiation
with Ven Khensur
Rinpoche
27th
and 28th March 2010, 2 pm to 5 pm each day.
This initiation most kindly
given by the highly esteemed and world recognized Lama Ven
Khensur Rinpoche.
This will allow those who have not
previously done so to take a highest yoga tantra
empowerment, thus allowing them to attend the Easter
Retreat. However, it is also
an important empowerment in its own right. The Yoga of
the Three Purifications is a powerful practice for purifying
body speech and mind.
Pre-requisite: You should have some understanding of the Three
Principal Aspects of the Path; faith in the law of
causality, and have taken refuge.
Commitment:
Daily recitation of the Six-session Guru Yoga as well as the
“Yoga of the Three Purifications”.

The Easter Retreat
: The Six Yogas of Naropa
with Ven Khensur Rinpoche

Commitments: no
commitment.
Pre-requisite: Highest
Yoga Tantra Initiation
Cost: $385 or $360

Deposit: $170 or $150 by
15th Feb and full payment by 15th March
Venue: Tibetan Buddhist
Institute
Khensur Kangyur Rinpoche
is famous in the Tibetan
Community-in-Exile for his exceptional mastery of
the Mother Tantras of Heruka and
Vajrayogini and has
graciously
consented to bestow over seven days the extraordinarily
rare
transmission of the “Six Yogas of Naropa” which is
the very core of the completion stage of
Anuttarayogatantra and which Khensur Rinpoche received from
the late
Junior Tutor of H.H. the Dalai
Lama, Khyabje Trijang Rinpoche when he
conferred
them for the last time in Dharamsala in 1973,
almost forty years ago.
Khensur Rinpoche will
base his teachings on Je Tsong kha pa’s
(1357-1419) great commentary on the “Six Yogas of Naropa”.
Inasmuch as the “Six
Yogas of Naropa”, which include the practice of
Tummo
represent the innermost essence of the
teachings of the Indian Mahasiddha
Naropa
(1012-1100), they can only be taught after an
Anuttarayogatantra
initiation has been conferred. Khensur
Rinpoche has therefore decided to
confer
initiation into the Body Mandala of 5-Deity Heruka in the
tradition of
Ghantapa as a preliminary. Those who
have already received an
Anuttarayogatantra
initiation, such as Yamantaka, do not need to
receive
the initiation of Heruka. However, since there is a
very powerful and
uncommon connection
between the practice of Heruka and the “Six
Yogas”
of Naropa, it is highly recommended to take this
initiation.
While there will be no
specific commitments for the teachings of “The Six
Yogas
of Naropa”, the commitment for the
5-Deity Heruka initiation will be the daily recitation of
the Six-session Guru Yoga as well as the “Yoga of the
Three Purifications”.
We hope that many will avail
themselves of such an exceptional opportunity,
exceptional both in terms of the
rarity and depth of
the teachings and of the excellence and
realizations of the
Teacher.
